Selling Rams

Postby Millstone Farm » Mon Jun 15, 2015 8:36 am

I asked $3000 for 26 Barbado Ram lambs, avg. weight 42.5#. Total weight 1105#. The buyer counter-offered with $2600 this morning and I countered with $2800. Haven't heard back. Should I have taken the 2600?

Oh well. I have sold 8 so far and have 25 more to go. Just sold a 41 pound lamb for $100

You are in a completely different market than folks like myself in MN; but here $100.00 for a 42 pound lamb is slightly better than trucking them to the local market:

I sold 17 ram lambs yesterday that weighed 85 pounds (three months old). They cleared $144 each minus the cost of hauling them 35 miles and 1/2 day of work.
Sounds like you did OK to me.

Thanks
I just wish now that I had let the guy have the 26 for 2600.
