SCHSA Membership Meeting 9-22-2012

Scott County Hair Sheep Association Members and interested producers:
SCHSA will be having our 3rd Quarter Membership meeting September 22, 2012 at the Virginia Tech Southwest Ag Research and Extension Center in Glade Springs, Virginia. As you may know, the Research Center has been conducting a forage based grain on grass ram lamb test which just ended. They plan to have a Field Day with speakers and a Ram Sale, Saturday September 22. Several members of Scott County Hair Sheep Association have had rams in the test and will be offering rams in the sale. The Southwest Ag Research Center has graciously agreed to allow us to hold our quarterly meeting in conjunction with their Field Day and Sale. The SWAREC Field Day begins at 2:30 pm, so Scott County hair Sheep Association membership plan to have our quarterly membership meeting from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm, then join the Field Day and Sale at 2:30. We plan to have an update on lamb marketing, discuss events upcoming throughout the remainder of the year, and have a general informational meeting.

I talked with Lee Wright, Superintendent of SWAREC, this past week and he went through the group of presenters at the Field Day, but at the risk of mis-quoting him or leaving someone out, I won't try to summarize the agenda from memory. I can say that some of the top researchers in the Sheep Industry, representing Virginia Tech's Animal Science Department, will be hosting the educational seminars that afternoon. I urge you to come out and take in the Field Day and educational opportunities and ram sale, view the research facility, and spend a day of fellowship with other sheep producers. For more information contact Lee Wright 276-944-2200. We look forward to seeing everyone out Saturday, September 22.
