Re: Aseasonal, wool EBV's & Linkage

When I look at a high carcass+ it seems most the individual EBVs fall into 3 categories, high PWWT & negative PEMDs, balanced and medium value PPWT and PEMDs, high PEMD and negative PWWT. ...snip.... Those sheep that are high in EBVs in both PEMD and growth, is it a result of using balanced bre...

Re: Aseasonal, wool EBV's & Linkage

Bob/NDCurt- doesn't Kathy use the SRC$ index? I don't find it very useful but I could see in a dual purpose breed that it would be pretty good. SRC (self-replacing carcass) is the one index I will use when selecting replacements. It is a combination of carcass and repro traits (no wool). I've had d...

Re: Aseasonal, wool EBV's & Linkage

There has been talk of an 'out of season' EBV for some time now. I know Dave Notter has worked on it some, but I think it is presenting more of a challenge. Not only is it a reproductive trait (with lower heritability) but it also is so dependent on environment (use of teaser rams, temperature, etc....

K Bar K Dorset Ewe Lambs for sale

I am currently taking deposits on Dorset ewe lambs that will be available after weaning in late May/early June (born Feb/Mar 2015). Production-style sheep raised on forage (Mixed legume/grass hay until Apr 18, all-pasture diet since). All multiple births. Any lambing issues are automatically culled....

Re: K Bar K Dorset Rams for Sale

Transportation available to Sedalia, MO in June. I also added the 2013 fall ram lambs to the list. Due to AI that is tentatively scheduled for fall 2015, we will have a very limited (if any) fall 2015 lambing this year.

Re: guardian dogs who made the grade...

Going back to the original post, one thing that hasn't been discussed is genetic structural defects. Of the last ten or so LGDs, we've had three break down in the hocks/hips, all from the same bloodlines. Other dogs we have in the same working environment have not had any problems. It's pretty dish...

Re: Importing Semen/embryos

Island Shepherd, if the UK border does open (which we keep waiting for as well!) will the semen collected previously still be eligible for importation? I heard somewhere (rumor only) that the requirements may change such that anything collected prior may not be eligible. I hope you are able to get t...
