Re: guardian dogs who made the grade...

Heidi was about 1 year old or so and wanted to chase lambs. I got a huge stuffed teddy bear, removed eyes and hard parts and gave it to her.....she carried it around for months, tossing it, sleeping with it and it was her plaything. She quit chasing the sheep and loved her toy. I tossed her more stu...

Re: Vet care for LGDs - in-office?

When my LGD are pups, I teach them to leash walk (nicely), stand and be examined, to be rolled over to check bellies, be able to open mouth and check inside (and I treat them after that) and to be tied up and know the commands "Leave it, stop" and come when called (followed by a treat or a...

Re: Regurgitating/re-eating food?

A few months ago, I was walking the pasture when I noticed pieces of dull red items in the LGD poop....it took me a while but I figured out it was pieces from a kong. I have no idea where the kong came from or how they got it, as they wandered off the farm at that time....but one of the pieces was t...

Re: Culling LGD pup

he wanted to play with the ewe because after Stella rolled his ass, he didn't bother the ewe anymore. He found a bone and was playing with that and then with Stella. Last I saw, he was sleeping with the ewes. He is an over excited pup and want to have fun. Stella corrected him and he had a look of e...

Re: Culling LGD pup

I turned loosed my 6 month LGD today and he promptly ran over and bowled a ewe down and was playing with her....pulling on wool....when Stella leaped the fence (main LGD) and rolled his ass over tea kettle ....sniffed the ewe who stood up and went back to eating like it was no big deal......Hebert l...

Re: Culling LGD pup

Sad the breeder won't stand behind their breeding or refund. Stella had a litter of pups almost two years ago. They lived in the creep area and with the lambs. When they got too playful with lambs, Stella stepped in and rolled the pup. I kept one and she loves her lambs. She was with lambs from day ...

Re: Culling LGD pup

My Stella was HORRIBLE at chasing, killing and eating lambs ....I was advised to lock her in a kennel away from her flock for a month and I gave her raw bones to chew on...fed her and then I let her out and she was overjoyed to be with her flock. I also chained her for a bit. She is an Anatolian. Ja...

http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_b-RSVnqo5vA/S436Xsg5yjI/AAAAAAAAFyk/vEIW3Ik-apo/s1600/Barb1.jpg this ewe kept prolapsing so we did this.....the duct tape was key......otherwise she pushed thru the twine....we added more duct tape and in the end she lambed trips, then all went bye bye.....
