Re: Teaser Ram

The professional apron to allow an intact ram to serve as a teaser will be available at the Reno Sale and the MWSRS. Ad will also be on the back cover of the Banner. As soon as a website is available I will post that info.

Re: Electric fence

A few years back our power bill was up. Found that the well pump was frequently cycling and could not find any water running. Well tech checked out the system and found the water warmer than expected. Pulled the pump to find a corrosion hole in the pipe threads at the pump. Went back in with heavy p...

Re: Round bale feeder

Jon,
Why not a high flotation tire on each end with a tongue extending out from the middle of one side? More weight can be moved on wheels than drug on the sod. It could only be loaded from one side if rolled up on edge next to the bale to load.

Re: Solar Panel for Barn Lighting?

Figure out how to hook the big trailer to a charged battery (jumper wires in the plug?), turn on the loading lights and see how long the battery lasts with the number of lights on.

You might try a clear led tractor light and hook it to a battery.

Re: Solar Panel for Barn Lighting?

Might need an inverter to convert 12v to 110v for conventional bulbs. I would suggest led bulbs as they draw less juice and last longer. Don't think your cold would have a negative effect as led lights are used on trailers. Ding!!!!! What would led vehicle backup lights do? They operate off 12v. Tak...

Terminal sire. Brahma bull producing Angus sperm used over Brahma cows in an environment Angus have difficulty surviving. The half blood calves should have more value than the straight Brahma calves.

Re: guardian dogs who made the grade...

Brian,
Why not artificial assistance for a dog? Many do it for sheep in the US and then wonder why stockmen down under can put protein on our tables for less than US product.

Maybe a replacement for the replacement?? Never mind. Spay neuter the parents.
The former LGD poster from a western state guarantees her dogs structurally.

Re: Round bale feeder

Next week is fine with me. I looked when I went by Sat but only saw bales scattered and no hay rack.

It looks good, Jon. I'll have to drop in for a look in a week or so when I have to go south.

Re: Lambing Advice for newbie

I have never heard or observed that ram age at time of breeding influenced size of offspring at birth or maturity. How could age of ram at breeding change the growth genes he contributes to a lamb? Ewe lambs may produce lighter lambs than as 2s or maturity when bred to the same sire.

Re: Lambing Advice for newbie

A lack of culling for bad mothering may work financially if the value of the fleece of the ewe more than covers annual ewe cost with a profit. A lamb to sell should increase the profitability of the ewe. It would seem that the Merino breeder who added in selection for maternal ability would eventual...
